The Lock: Building a digital home for a feature film in pre-production
How Backed by Humans helped The Lock team turn a presentation pack into a permanent digital home, supporting funding conversations, supporter engagement and automated admin support for the project.
The Lock now has a permanent digital home to present the film, share its progress and support the relationships needed to move the project forward.
Backed by Humans worked with the team behind The Lock to create an online presence and supporting tools for the new feature film in development.
We created a complete digital home for the project, including:
- The main film website
- A way for supporters to subscribe for film updates
- Enquiry forms
- A private administration area
- Automated notifications and acknowledgement emails
Together, these give the team a clearer way to present the film, support conversations with funders, keep supporters engaged and manage enquiries.
The project
The Lock is a feature film in pre-production, created by Andrii Zhuravskyi and Anna Pavlova Garshyna.
At this stage of a film project, the team is focused on building supportive relationships. Prospective partners, collaborators and supporters need enough information to understand the film, the people behind it and what the project is aiming to achieve.
Before the website, the team relied on a PowerPoint presentation pack and direct conversations when introducing the project. It gave them something to share, but there was no permanent online presence people could visit, explore or discover for themselves.
Building it together
Our first step was to understand what The Lock team needed from its online presence and what Backed by Humans could build to support it.
Through workshops with the team, we explored the problems they were trying to solve, the audiences they needed to reach and how they wanted people to feel when they first encountered the project.
Bringing the film’s identity online
The site needed to introduce the story and creative team, support funding and partnership conversations, share development progress and give interested people a clear way to make contact.
We talked through how the film was currently being presented, what information potential partners and supporters needed, how the team wanted the project to feel visually, and what should happen when somebody wanted to know more or get involved.
From those conversations, we developed a visual identity for the website that reflected the atmosphere of the film and gave visitors an immediate sense of its world. That meant thinking carefully about colour, typography and imagery alongside the creative team.
Supporting the team behind the scenes
Behind the public website, we built tools to help the team manage new contacts and keep conversations moving.
Visitors can subscribe for project updates or submit an enquiry.
Those details are stored in a private administration area where authorised members of the team can review contacts, see previous interactions and manage follow up.
Notifications and acknowledgement emails are also handled automatically.
This creates a simple journey from somebody discovering the film through to a member of the team being able to continue the conversation.
A more credible home for the project
The Lock now has an online presence the team can use throughout pre-production.
Instead of relying solely on a presentation pack, they have a permanent place to introduce the film, share progress and direct potential partners and supporters.
The site is already being used during initial conversations and to support funding and grant applications.
For the team, one of its most important roles is helping establish The Lock as a credible project while building the relationships needed to move it forward.
Does your project need a digital home?
Some projects need to build confidence long before there is a finished product to show.
Backed by Humans works with teams to understand what they are trying to achieve, then builds the digital tools and experiences that support those goals.
